August Favourites 2015

Hello and welcome back to another monthly favourites post. This month's features a variety of products, from beauty and fashion to driving, so without further ado, here are my August favourites...

Beauty and Fashion:
·         Oh La La by Agatha Ruiz De La Prada- This perfume has featured on my blog a couple of times before but as I went to Spain last week, I had to pick up a new bottle (the one I bought at Easter is running dangerously low!) and I still love the scent as much as when I first used it. Definitely a great summer scent; quite fresh, floral and slightly sweet.
·         L’Oreal Superstar False Lash Mascara- Sorry if you’re fed up of seeing this product in my favourites but I have to keep putting it in as I still love it a lot and find it amazing for my lashes. It’s so voluminous, lengthening and thickening in all the best ways, and really helps to open up my eyes. The only time I don’t wear this mascara is if I’m having a very subtle make up day, in which case I go for a more natural eye look with a different mascara. I can’t recommend this mascara enough if you’re looking for a more defined lash look; it may be slightly more expensive than some drugstore mascaras but there’s very little difference and it is most definitely worth it.
·         Maybelline Brow Satin Eyebrow Pencil- Another product I bang on about but I have never found a brow product so effective and easy to use, especially for light eyebrows. The Maybelline brow satin eye pencil really helps to shape and fill in your brows, and doesn’t take long to get the look you want. It’s also useful for building it up- i.e. if you want a more subtle brow or a more defined, darkened look.
·        Real Techniques Expert Face Brush- As I mentioned in my last favourites (here), I've wanted this brush for a while but I never expected it to be as good as it is! It makes a massive difference to my make up application and makes it so much easier to control the application of foundation and concealer, and give a smoother, better finished look. I am hoping to get a few more real techniques brushes in the near future as if they're all as good as this, then they are definitely worth having.
Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation- I don’t think I’ve heard people mention a foundation any more than this one, yet it’s taken me this long to actually give it a go. I managed to pick this up from face2body for only £4.99 which is a quite a lot cheaper than the r.r.p and now I know how much I love it, I’m a lot more likely to pick it up off the shelf even at its regular price. The foundation was a great match for my skin tone, it has a medium to light coverage so it doesn’t feel cakey on your skin, it’s easy to distribute evenly across your face and it’s easy to blend.
·         Patterned Joggers- I have wanted some of these trousers for ages and have actually bought three pairs similar to this before and had to take all of them back for different reasons (all to do with size though) so when I finally found some long enough and the right waist size, I knew I had to pick them up. They are unbelievably comfy and are perfect for travelling, for wearing when it’s a bit warm but not warm enough for shorts, going out somewhere whether it’s casual or smart casual, or for just wearing around the house- basically, they’re comfy and versatile and definitely worth owning.

·         Little Mix- I have been a fan of Little Mix since X Factor but they’ve never really been a favourite; yes I loved both them and their music but they’re never the first ones to spring to mind when someone asks my favourite artist. However, recently, I have really loved their sound and their personalities. It always amazes me how incredible their voices are live and unplugged, and even more so when they perform what appears to be difficult dance routines, without missing a step and without it affecting their singing voices. I have particularly enjoyed listening to this acoustic version of black magic (above) as I think their voices sound amazing; very raw and powerful. In fact it was their four year anniversary this month as well, so congratulations to them and long may it continue. They are four truly talented ladies, and I can’t wait for Get Weird!
·         Now 91- The other day, I had the longest drive I’ve ever done on my own, so to make things easier and to help me keep lively and focused, I purchased Now 91 for my car, it was particularly useful as each CD has a lot of tracks on it, meaning it won’t keep repeating the songs and you don’t have to swap the disc very often (pulled over of course). I had to put this in my favourites as there are so many incredible tracks on there, from a range of artists.
·         All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven- I’m not going to say too much about this book, as I actually have a review on this coming very soon (so keep your eyes peeled), but this book is fantastic. Jennifer Niven makes it so easy for you to fall in love with both the plot and the characters whilst tackling some fairly taboo subjects in an appropriate and sensitive way.
·         Looking for Alaska by John Green- I reckon this book is my favourite John Green book so far, it has so many different elements and makes it difficult for the reader to put the book down. Again, I have a review on this book coming soon, so I won’t say any more but if you do get the chance to read this book, I highly recommend it!
·         Pretty Little Liars- Of course, this had to be in my monthly favourites; I am a huge fan of the show and was very excited to watch the mid season finale and Big A reveal this month. I won’t give any spoilers away on here, but if you have caught up with the show or don’t watch it but are intrigued anyway, then you can check out my PLL tag here.

·         Blind Spot Mirrors- An odd one to put in my favourites but as I mentioned above, I had to travel quite a distance the other day and to make things easier and safer for me, I wanted to get some blind spot mirrors. These have been very useful as they’ve made it easier for me to see cars that are (funnily enough) in my blind spot which is one of the hardest things I find about driving, so it really did make a difference. If any of you are driving, learning to drive or thinking about learning, I’d recommend getting some of these mirrors as they’re not too expensive and they don’t hinder your driving, the only thing they can do is help and you may be surprised by what difference it makes.
·         Spain- This time last week, I was sunbathing by the pool, reading a book, eating watermelon and just enjoying the Spanish weather and experience. I stayed in a villa near Murcia with my family for a week and we had a lovely time; doing very little and just enjoying each others’ company. I think my favourite day was the day we ventured into Murcia, where we went shopping; I managed to get some lovely, affordable things from a shop called Ale Hop which I recommend you visit if you ever see one; and we ate lunch in a Tapas bar in the square by the cathedral which was absolutely beautiful. I chose a crepe with nougat ice cream, almonds and honey for my lunch (not your typical lunch I know) but being a piscetarian, I was more limited to what I could have and fancied the crepe instead anyway and whilst we ate, there were musicians playing in the square which really added to the atmosphere, and water spray to keep us cool in the thirty-something degree heat. Overall it was a lovely day and a lovely holiday, and one I would love to do again.
·         18th/ 50th Party- As mentioned in my last ‘Day in the Life’ post, this month I also celebrated my 18th early along with my mum and auntie’s 50th, and the whole evening was wonderful; definitely a highlight of my year. For more details on what that entailed, you can click here to read my post.
·         Selfie Stick- I must admit, I never saw myself as ever owning a selfie stick but when I came across a really cute, purple one in Ale Hop (mentioned above), I thought it would be fun to get one… I was right. It actually helps to take some really great photos, as you can angle it in the light better, and you can get more people on. I think this might be a product I have a lot of fun with over the coming months.

Thank you for reading this post, I hope you enjoyed reading about some of the things I've been loving this month. Let me know if there's anything you've tried this month and recommend.

10 Beauty Questions Tag

1. Which beauty vlogger would you want to give you a makeover?
There are a lot of beauty vloggers that I'd love to give me a makeover but I think I might go with Gabby so that she can do a dark smokey eye look for me which I can then recreate, as at the moment the only one I can do well that suits me is a gold smokey eye look, silver at a push.

2. What celeb do you think you look like?
None, I honestly can't think of one I look like and have never been told I look like one so if anyone has any ideas, let me know but if not then I have no clue.

3. What's your best beauty tip?
A simple and cliche one but the tip I believe most is to only wear makeup because you genuinely want to, not because you feel like you have to.

4. Which beauty vloggers would you bring on a shopping spree?
Zoe, Gabby and Louise. I think that would be the best day out; it would be so fun and they'd be great at giving me advice on what to get.

5. What is your signature scent?
I don't really know, I tend to swap my perfumes around a lot but two I repeatedly use and purchase are Charlie Red and Wonderstruck by Taylor Swift.

6. How many beauty products does it take to get you ready?
About 11 if I'm doing a full daytime look.

7. Who is your celebrity beauty icon?
Probably Taylor Swift; she's definitely my style icon but I think I might say her for beauty as well.

8. Favourite mascara right now?
I've said this a couple of times now but it has to be L'Oreal Paris False Lash Superstar Mascara, it is amazing! It does everything; lengthens, volumises, thickens and just makes my lashes look so much better.

9. I try never to be seen without...?
Mascara! Although more recently, I would add concealer and filled in brows to the list.

10. What's one beauty product you'd always recommend?
The mascara I mentioned above, Maybelline Master Graphic Eyebrow Pencil or Simple Light Moisturising Lotion.

Thanky uo for reading this tag, I hope you enjoyed it.

A Day In The Life: 18th/50th Party

Two weeks ago today, I spent the evening surrounded by my friends and family, celebrating my (early) 18th, my mum's 50th and my aunties 50th. I had an incredible evening and I wanted to do a reflection post or another 'Day in the life' post so that the memory doesn't fade away; I can look back on it and so that I can share it with you.

I love party planning, I find it really exciting and interesting and often, I become so consumed by the planning and how I want everything to go, that I don't enjoy the event as much as I expect or hope to. However, this is one of the few parties where that didn't happen... I loved every moment of it.

We held it in a cricket club and so were both indoors and (for me, mostly) outdoors, which luckily the weather allowed us to do easily. It was quite small but was big enough for everything we wanted, and was ideal for the evening.

We had a hog roast style buffet, (there was no full pig spinning round, which I was very happy about especially as I'm piscetarian!!!) and a chocolate fountain which was delicious, although I didn't actually use it much- I think I went up to the fountain once! The food was presented really nicely and tasted lovely. One of my cousins also made us 5 chocolate bouquets (of dairy milk chocolate bars) that we could place on the table as a decoration and that guests could help themselves to, which were beautiful.

No birthday party is complete without a cake and the cake we had made for our party was amazing!!! It was actually another of my cousins that made it as she has her own cake business and makes the nicest, most beautiful cakes. Our colour scheme was mostly pink, black and white, with hints of purple, and our only theme really was music, so we had a cake made to fit these things, and this was the cake she designed and made for us:

The bottom layer was vanilla, the middle layer was chocolate and the top layer was lemon (the top one reminded me of a french fancy). If you ever need a cake baking for any occasion and you are from around the East Midlands, I'd definitely recommend you check out her cakes and contact her if you're interested because they are delicious and gorgeous- and what more do you need from a cake???

Sweet Cakes and Pretty Bakes: 'Bespoke customised cakes and bakes individually tailored for any occasion'
If you are interested, you can email her at:

As you probably expect, we did have a DJ and disco which I see as almost an essential for a party of that scale. Whilst he was very good, it was more of a background filler and a break between the ABBA tribute band we had hired, which really got people dancing (especially those who had a bit too much to drink and were set on embarrassing those who hadn't ). Now I'm not really a fan of dancing, I tend to avoid it whenever I can, but I did enjoy seeing how happy it made others. The entertainment which I had picked out. organised and loved through out the evening, was the photobooth. I find photobooths incredibly fun; you can mess around and just enjoy yourself whilst capturing the memories, so as you can guess, I did go in multiple times with different people. You can see some of those photos in the collage at the top of this post, or I put a couple on my Instagram, so you can check that out here if you want to see them there.

All in all, I had one of the best evenings I've ever had, I was among family and friends, I got to talk to people I hadn't spoken to in a long time or hadn't spoken to much before, I had fun just talking, taking photos in the photobooth, eating, listening to the music and just having a nice time with everybody. I also enjoyed the simplicity of just dressing up for the evening, wearing a pretty dress, doing my hair and makeup nicely and even stretching as far as fake lashes which is unusual for me but was really fun to do.

I want to say a massive thank you to everybody that made the evening special, it was an incredible way to kick start my 18th birthday celebrations. I hope you had as good an evening as I did.

Thank you for reading!

The Pretty Little Liars Tag

Some of my regular readers might have noticed that today isn't my usual upload day, however as I'm not going to get chance to upload this week's tag post tomorrow, I decided to do it early for you even if that does technically stop it from being a 'Tag Tuesday' but it's the thought that counts, right?

In honour of the Season 6 Mid-Season Finale (how exciting was it to finally have some answers??? Very!) If anyone hasn't seen that episode yet, I suggest you go and catch up if you haven't already and watch that episode (and then you can come back and read this post). Anyway, I thought it was an appropriate time to do this PLL tag which I believe was created by Ingrid Nilson (Miss Glamorazzi) and Joey Graceffa a while ago (you can check the videos out here (joey's channel) and here (Ingrid's video)) but seeing as I am a huge PLL fan which I'm sure you all know by now, I thought this might be a fun tag to do!

1. Who is your favourite character?
Hanna; I think she's hilarious, she comes out with the best lines, she's intelligent, has a great style and is one half of Haleb!

Paige- I don't have much of a reason for this, she just irritated me but as she hasn't played a big part really in the last season, more recently, I'd have to go with Toby (sorry Spoby fans), I just find him increasingly annoying and as a result I no longer ship Spoby!2. Who is your least favourite character?

3. Who do you ship?

4. Most memorable cheesy/stupid moment?
I don't know if this counts as being memorable seeing as it only happened in the last episode (season 6 episode 10) but a very stupid moment which had me shouting at the screen was when the girls' mums descended into the basement without a phone or anything, leaving nobody up to make sure they didn't get shut in, which low and behold they did. That was a very frustrating moment; I will never understand why characters don't send a couple into a basement and leave the rest to keep guard!?! And who knows if they ever got out of there?

5. Favourite villain?
It definitely has to be Mona, she makes the best villain and I love her character. I also think Janel Parrish plays her really well.

6. Which girl do you think has been hurt the most by A?
I think I'd say Spencer but it's pretty close between all four of them.

7. Which girl's style do you love most?

8. Which girl do you relate to the most?
Maybe Aria simply because I love reading and writing and I quite like photography even though it's not my strongest skill.

9. Who's your crush on the show?
Caleb and Mike

10. What was the most shocking moment for you?
I haven't actually been that shocked by much the past two seasons, I guessed that Mona was still alive, I guessed who A was and kind of guessed who Red Coat was so none of the 'big' reveals actually shocked me. I think the biggest shock might be when all of the girls were arrested, which looking back, I probably should have expected.

11. What would you do if A was after you?
Definitely tell my parents and the police, I think although it would be scary, it would only be worse keeping it to myself so I'd tell them straight away before it escalates.

12. What has been your favourite episode so far?
Possibly 'Welcome to the dollhouse' which was the fifth season finale, I think that was a very emotional, exciting and interesting episode with a great plot.

Results Day

Today's post is another rambly one, as part of my 'Contemplating' series. As many of you probably know either from personal involvement or from hearing about it somewhere; for UK citizens, yesterday (13th August) was A Level results day for both AS and A2 and although I got my AS results, I'm not going to mention them in this post, I'm just going to talk generally about my thoughts and reactions to the day.

I want to start by saying a huge well done to everybody that completed their A levels this year, and that worked really hard to get the grade they did, whether they're happy with it or not. If you tried your best and put in the effort, you deserve congratulating whatever the outcome was because A levels are bloomin' hard so to work through them and get to results day, you should be proud.

Having said that I know that quite a few people weren't happy with their results, whether that's because they thought they'd done better, they messed up the exam, or they tried really hard and just couldn't quite reach the grade they needed to continue with the course or to get into their first choice university. To all of those people, I just want to reassure them that it's okay, whilst it can seem horrible at first, if you look at it with a fresh pair of eyes, you might be able to see that there are other ways around it and other routes you can go down.

I was once told: 'you don't always have to go from A to B in a straight line, sticking to the same, expected path; if things go wrong, you can go back, you can take another route or you can chose a different destination and whichever path you go down, you can still reach your outcome, it just might take a little bit longer.' This was something that stuck with me and whenever something doesn't quite go as I expect it to or isn't as I'd hoped, I think back to this and know that my goal is still reachable.

If you find that you've got to resit a year, redo a course, go to a different university, or go down a different route all together, try to remember that it will all work out and you can still reach your final destination, whether that's a long term one or a short term one.

I hope you're happy with your results and if you're not, I hope you're happy or comfortable with whatever step you have to take next. Well done for completing the year and good luck with your next few steps.

The McBusted Tag

Today's 'Tag Tuesday' is very specific; McBusted and so for this one, I enlisted the help of one of my closest friends Jess who is, like me, a big fan of the band (probably even more so than I am). So without further ado, here is the McBusted Tag...

1. When did you find out about McBusted?
Jess: I think it was on a YouTube channel, whilst I was looking for Tom Fletcher videos.
Steph: I think a friend told me about it and I didn't believe them at first, but once I knew it was real I was so excited about it.

2. First song you heard?
Jess: Air guitar. Absolutely loved it!
Steph: Air guitar for me as well and I actually didn't like this song that much when I first heard it but it grew on me very quickly.

3. Have you ever seen them live?
Jess: Nope, but it's on the bucket list! Their shows always look amazing fun, but I've never been able to go and see them.
Steph: Yes once and it was incredible, it was so energetic and lively; it was such a fun concert.

4. Have you ever met them?
Jess: No but that would be amazing.
Steph: Nope.

5. Are you followed by them on twitter?
Jess: James Bourne followed me on April 13th. Best twitter moment ever!
Steph: No.

6. Favourite song?
Jess: Get over it, back in time and before you knew me- Too close to decide on one.
Steph: Riding on my bike, back in time and hate your guts.

7. Do you have any merch/posters?
Jess: Yeah, I have a signed poster that a friend got me.
Steph: Only the programme from their first tour.

8. Who is your favourite member and why?
Jess: Tom Fletcher; I don't know why, I just love him but it's closely followed by Dougie.
Steph: Harry; he's always been my favourite but like Jess, I don't know why.

9. Were you already a McFly/Busted fan and when from?
Jess: Yeah, I loved McFly and McBusted introduced me to all of Busted's songs which I'm very glad about.
Steph: I loved them both which is why I was so happy that they were making music again and even happier that it was together. McFly and Busted were pretty much my childhood bands; I loved them!

10. What's your favourite McFly/Busted song?
Jess: Nerdy by Busted or Obviously by McFly. I really love the message of nerdy (and the guitar-ing is to die for) and I've always loved obviously.
Steph: It's got to be Year 3000 or Thunderbirds Are Go by Busted and Star Girl or All About You by McFly but I love so many others almost as much!

I hope you enjoyed reading that tag, if any of you are McBusted fans and fancy giving the tag a go, let me know in the comments so I can give them a read. Thank you Jess for featuring in this post and for helping me decide what to do; you are a great problem solver and friend in general. <3

Summer With My Best Friend

Today I wanted to share with you my time spent with one of my best friends (basically a sister) so I have another 'Day in the life' style post despite the fact I'm recounting the past fortnight rather than just one day.

I featured Runa and briefly mentioned our time in my July Favourites (here) but for anyone that hasn't read that or wants more detail; Runa and I first started talking in 2012 and met for the first time that Summer, in 2013 I went to stay with her in February and she came to stay with me in September, I then went to stay with her again in July last year (2014) so this year she came back to ours. She visited along with 4 others who I am also very good friends with (they stayed with other people but we did a lot as a group) and she stayed for two weeks.

I won't explain every little detail of the trip as that would take a while and probably wouldn't be that interesting, so instead I'm going to highlight some of my favourite moments.

  • Go Ape- Myself, Runa, George (my best friend) and my brother spent the day completing the high ropes course and then having a picnic. Whilst I am afraid of heights, I love doing things like high ropes and Go Ape is no exception. We had an amazing day, laughing at each other as we failed to land the zip wires on our feet, helping each other when we struggled to do something (particularly me when we had to force ourselves to jump/step off a platform and trust the harness to swing us safely into the net), and just spending time with each other.
  • Ice Skating- I love ice skating so I really enjoyed this day even though I'm not great at the sport, although I'm not particularly bad either- just okay! It did make me crave skiing though, which is possibly my favourite sport even though, for obvious reasons, I can't do it very often.
  • George's Birthday- Whilst Runa was here, it was also George's birthday, so we spent one afternoon at her house with a couple of other people and just had a lovely and very funny time playing some games, chatting and eating pizza and other snacks! I particularly enjoyed playing Scruples which is a card game where you have to select someone in the group that you think would answer an ethical question a certain way; and twister which was very funny to do.
  • Shopping- I had to put shopping as a highlight seeing as I am such a big shopaholic. I don't think I've ever spent so much time in a shopping center before, and by the end I was truly exhausted but I managed to make a lot of (too many) great purchases.
  • BBQ- One afternoon/evening, we had a lovely BBQ with the whole group and a couple of extra friends which was a lovely day. The weather was good for us and we enjoyed spending time together, just relaxing, playing card games and, of course, having a BBQ which was amazing, even if it had to be moved inside due to a wasp attack.
  • Card Games- I learnt so many new card games whilst she was here and we spent a great deal of our free time playing some of them which I'm sure I'll remember doing for a long time.
  • Meal With The Family- One evening we went to Frankie & Benny's with my family which was a great evening; tasty food; funny moments and a nice time spent together. We also watched a movie when we got home (The Other Woman) which was very funny and was a very pleasant end to the day.
  • Picnics- My last key highlight is picnics as we had a number of them, with several different people, which I enjoyed a lot; it was lovely to spend time just chilling, playing card games, having a picnic and taking some fun photographs.
Overall, I had an amazing fortnight and loved spending time with all of my friends from Germany that I don't get to see very often, especially my best friend Runa who is kind, funny, beautiful and amazingly strong. I'm so glad I met her three years ago and can't imagine my life without her now (I know that sounds incredibly cheesy but it's true). Each year, we get closer and closer even when it doesn't seem possible, and I know I could tell her anything. I hope we continue to do this for so many years as I know there are so many amazing memories already and hope there will be so many more to come. I want to say thank you to everybody involved in making the two weeks so special but especially thank you to Runa for everything she does! I love you all so much and hope to see you again soon!

Thank you for reading this post.

The Movie Tag

1. Favourite movie of all time?
This is a difficult one but I think it might have to be The Proposal; it's so funny and has two of my favourite actors/actresses in. If you haven't seen it, I definitely recommend you give it a watch.

2. Favourite scene from that movie? (contains spoilers)
The scene where the two characters run into each other naked, it cracks me up every time and I will never got bored of watching and laughing at that scene.

3. Favourite actors/actresses?
Favourite Actresses: Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Lawrence, Jennifer Aniston and Anne Hathaway
Favourite Actors: Ryan Reynolds, Leonardo Dicaprio, Zac Efron and Channing Tatum.

4. Most annoying actor/actresses?
Bendict Cumberbatch- I don't know why but he really gets on my nerves.

5. Best director?
I'm not very good with remembering or knowing much about directors, so I don't have a preference to my knowledge.

6. Favourite guilty pleasure film?
The Hannah Montana Movie, I could watch that film over and over again and not get bored, it always cheers me up when I'm down and I just love it.

7. Favourite tear jerker?
The Last Song.

8. Character from a movie that scared you the most? (contains spoilers)
I love horror films so there are probably a couple from those that scared me but I think the one that scared me the most is the Black Bride in the end scene of the first Insidious; I found that last scene really haunting and it affected me more after the film than any other character in a horror film.

9. Movie you love that everyone hates?
I don't really know, probably The Lego Movie which not everyone hates but it seems to cause a divide between those that love it and those that hate it- kind of like marmite!

10. Movie you hate that everyone loves?
The Wolf Of Wall Street- one of the worst films I've ever seen. In my opinion, it has no plot; all it is is drugs, sex and swearing on a screen, which doesn't appeal to me... I want to watch a film with a good plot and/or some great characters.

11. Favourite movie duo?
I have been thinking about this one for a while and I can't come up with anything, sorry!

12. Favourite animated movie?

13. Actor/actress crush?
Zac Efron, Ryan Reynolds, Colin O'Donoghue, Tyler Blackburn, Cody Christian and Channing Tatum.

14. Favourite movie villain?
I don't tend to like movie villains but if I had to pick one it would probably be President Snow from The Hunger Games because although I don't like him, I think his character is very interesting.

15. What movie surprised you the most?
Guardians of the Galaxy because although I didn't love it (nothing against the film, just not the type of film I usually enjoy), I hadn't expected to like it at all but it made me laugh A LOT!

16. If you could only keep one movie what would it be?
Probably The Proposal because it is my all-time favourite movie.

17. Favourite movie genre and movie from that genre?
Romcom and The Proposal again.

18. What's the first movie you remember watching at the cinema?
The first one I remember watching is The Incredibles but I'm sure I watched a couple of films at the cinema before then.

Sorry this hasn't technically been a 'Tag Tuesday', I've had a very busy week with little time to write and edit, and whilst I tried to get it finished in time for Tuesday, it is in fact a few minutes late. I hope you enjoyed reading it anyway.
