May Favourites 2015

I have been loving so many things this month across a variety of areas, so without further ado, here are my May favourites:

Rimmel Wonder'full Mascara- I did a post on this product here, which you can read if you want more detail about the mascara, but as a brief summary, I've found it great to use on a daily basis for a slightly subtle, natural lash look and I love the rubber wand which easily glides onto the lashes.
J2O Apple and Raspberry Lip Balm- This lip balm smells and tastes amazing, but it's a very dark purple shade which leaves your lips purpley/pinky. This is good for anyone wanting to add a bit of colour to their lips, while hydrating them, without committing to lipstick which you have to keep topping up, or without leaving a shine from lipgloss, if you want a matte finish.
Ted Baker Butterfly Scrub- I got this for Christmas but I only opened it this month as I've been using my other, open products. I have used this before and loved it but I think I love it even more this time around. It smells incredible and has a great texture which is easy to mix with water to make it more liquid-like or to use on damp/wet skin without mixing with water, for more of a scrub, which is great for removing any dead skin.
Ultimate Fix Foundation, Concealer and Powder- I have been loving using this product this month because I've found my liquid foundations and even my BB cream too heavy and uncomfortable on my skin, I don't know why as I'm usually fine with them and find them quite light but for some reason, I've been really aware of it being on my skin this month. To get around this, I used this powder-like foundation and it made my skin feel so much fresher, lighter and more comfortable.
L'Oreal False Lash Superstar Mascara- I love this mascara, it makes my lashes look so much better and fuller than any other mascara I've used, it lasts all day and is great for both lengthening and volumising. For more information on this, you can check out my blog post on it here.

The Vamps Concert- I enjoyed everything about that evening but rather than rambling on about it for a second time, you can read about my evening here if you want to hear more.
Warriors by Imagine Dragons- This is such a good song, I love the beat and music you can hear throughout the song, as well as the vocals which I think, have a great tone.
Fall Out Boy- Recently, I have been loving listening to various songs from Fall Out Boy's American Beauty/American Psycho album, particularly American Beauty/American Psycho and Fourth of July which I am obsessed with and have been listening to on repeat!

YouTube Videos

Bad Blood by Taylor Swift- How could I not put this video in my favourites, not only is it a great song (probably my favourite from the album), but the video is incredible with so many amazing faces, a lot of action, and interesting graphics. It looks like it was really fun to film.
My Boy Friend Does My Make Up by Gabby (Velvetgh0st) and Hobbie Stuart- As you've probably guessed by now, I am a huge fan of both Gabby and Hobbie and even more so when they're together. I have watched and rewatched this video numerous times and I still love it as much as I did the first time. It made me laugh a heck of a lot and it contained so many cute moments between the two. I'd love to see more main channel videos of the two of them and would love to see Hobbie do more main channel videos on his own as well because he is so funny and adorable in this video.

Meganjmccracken- I love both Megan and her blog, she's so lovely and easy to talk to, and I always love to read her posts. I'd definitely recommend checking her blog out.
Lolarainxx- Similarly, I love reading Lucy's posts and although I haven't really spoken to her much, she seems like a really lovely and interesting person and I would love to speak to her more often (I blame me and my forgetfulness!)

AA- This (app) game is so simple but addictive. For those that don't know what it is, you have a large black circle that spins in the center and little black circles that you have to get onto the larger circle but the black circles can't touch each other. It doesn't sound that  fun when you explain it, but it provides hours of entertainment. Although, I've been stuck on level 84 for over a week now!
Minesweeper Flags- Another (app) game which is really simple but addictive. This game takes me back to my childhood, as it is the first computer game I remember playing, along with Spider Solitaire.
Nak'd Banana Crunch Bar- This bar tastes so good, and is full of protein and all natural ingredients, making it a guilt-free pleasure. I've tried this flavour, the apple one, the strawberry one and the chocolate one but this one is my favourite by far, it has an interesting texture and tastes amazing. It's also suitable for vegans.
Beat the Brain- I love this game show, it's my new favourite because rather than just being about trivia and knowledge, it tests different parts of your brain. I also really like it because, not to toot my own horn, but I'm usually pretty good at it and get most of the challenges right which I really like :)
The Big Bang Theory: The Indecision Amalgamation- I love The Big Bang Theory and this episode made me laugh so much, especially the scene that involved the conversation about the message in the card.

Hello everyone, today I wanted to give you a general update and reflect on some of the things that have happened recently.
So, at the moment, there's quite a lot of big things happening in my life, some exciting, positive things and some more serious and negative things and whilst it's definitely not the easiest time, I just wanted to make a post about some of the nice things.
  1. The first thing is that this blog hit 2000 reads which I am so thankful for, and it makes me so happy to see that people take the time to read some of the things I've written and to share some of the things I enjoy. Especially to see people from a variety of countries, which is crazy to think about. Having an audience, makes the whole experience more enjoyable because it's like what I'm writing has a purpose and I'm so glad people (hopefully, and seem to) enjoy reading my posts. Blogging has also helped me discover new people and opened up this new virtual world, which I love being a part of. If anyone ever has any suggestions or requests for blog posts or a general overall improvement, I'm always happy to hear them, whether it's in any comments on my posts or if you want to send them via a social media site (links in the contact tab), and if you ever want to leave general comments, I always love reading them and discovering new people, so don't be afraid to so. Thank you all so much for joining me on this journey.
  2. The second exciting thing that happened was that I passed my driving test yesterday which one, allowed me to cross it off my bucket list, which was a really satisfying moment and two, has made so many things easier. Although it's going to be bloomin' expensive to run, it saves me having to get the bus home from college which will save a lot of time and it will give me more freedom and flexibility to do the things I want to do. It's definitely weird driving around either by myself or with a friend and just general without an adult, but it's also an exciting moment in my life.
  3. Finally, and this is quite a way off from actually happening but, I managed to get tickets today for 'An Audience with Union J' which involves; a Q and A, a meet and greet, live songs and merchandise, and the one I have tickets to is 6 days after my 18th birthday, so I'm actually getting the tickets for my birthday (although it won't be a surprise), and I am beyond excited, but also nervous considering last time I met them at a signing, I got starstruck and didn't talk really, so I am determined not to let the same thing happen again.
Thank you so much for reading. Let me know of any nice things that have happened recently or are happening to you at the moment.

The Music Tag

I have another tag for you today. For this I combined a couple of tags about music as they all had some good questions and a couple had questions that I wouldn't have been able to answer so it wouldn't have been very interesting.

1. Which band/artist do you own most albums of?
Olly Murs if you just count albums but if you include singles and EPs then Union J, The Wanted and 5 Seconds of Summer

2. What was the last song you listened to?
At the time of writing this it was American Beauty/American Psycho by Fall Out Boy

3. What's in your CD player right now?
You Got It All the album by Union J

4. What was the last show you attended?
The Vamps and Union J on 5/5/15

5. What was the greatest show you've ever been to?
I really can't pick this one because I've loved every concert I've been to for different reasons.

6. What show are you looking forward to?
5 Seconds of Summer on 5/6/15

7. What band/musician would you like to hang out with for the day?
Union J, no surprise there.

8. Who is one musician or group you wish would make a comeback?
I know they haven't been gone for that long but definitely The Wanted.

9. Who is one band/artist you've never seen live but always wanted to?
Jason Derulo and Taylor Swift, I think both would be incredible performances and they both have some wicked songs, I can't pick between the two.

10. How many concerts have you been to in total?
12 I think.

11. Who have you seen live the most?
I've seen Union J, The Wanted, Olly Murs and The Vamps three times.

12. What is your favourite movie soundtrack?
Frozen or The Fault in our Stars.

13. Who's your favourite band/musician at the moment?
If I had to pick one, it would be Union J (no surprise) but there are so many others that I really love and that I would consider to be favourites as well.

14. One band you always come back to?
The Wanted.

15. What is/are your favourite song(s) of all time?
My favourite songs are always changing, and I always have so many but a couple that have been favourites for a long time are: Don't Wanna Miss A Thing by Aerosmith, I'll Be Your Strength by The Wanted and Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen

16. Top 3 most played songs on your iTunes?
I have two versions of the same song as my top two: Tonight (We Live Forever) Refix by George and Jaymi (from Union J), Tonight (We Live Forever) Refix by Josh and JJ (from Union J) and I Can't Make You Love Me by Union J

17. Most underrated band/musician in your opinion?
Union J because I don't think they get enough credit for how beautiful their voices are and how talented they are. They also seem like (and from my experience are) really lovely and genuine people. I also think Hobbie Stuart deserves more credit for his beautiful voice.

18. Favourite song lyrics?
'We can stand so tall together, we can make it through the stormy weather.' -I'll be your strength by The Wanted
'But I'm only human, I bleed when I fall down, I'm only human, and I crash and I break down.' -Human by Christina Perri
'Go on and try to tear me down, I will be rising from the ground, like a skyscraper.' -Skyscraper by Demi Lovato
'What you know about me, and all the s*** I went through just to get myself here, what you know about me, and all the nights I stayed up trying to fight back the tears, what you know about me, cause what you see is just an image you perceive.' -What you know about me? by District 3
'Who says you're not perfect? Who says you're not worth it?' -Who says? by Selena Gomez
'Let me out, out of this cage and I'll jump right off, off of this stage, I'm a shooting star, I'm a shock wave, we're a work of art, look what we've made.' -Lucky Ones by Union J

L'Oreal Paris False Lash Superstar vs Rimmel Extreme Black Wonder'full Mascara

For over a month now, I've been loving using the Rimmel Wonder'full mascara, but after hearing so many great reviews about the L'Oreal Paris False Lash Superstar mascara, I was desperate to get my hands on it and try it for myself. I bought it about two week ago now and I have loved using it to much. Rather than doing a review on just the one mascara, I thought I'd try doing a 'versus' post to see the advantages and disadvantages of both products and how they compare.
Rimmel Extreme Black Wonder'full

This costs £7.99 but as I bought it abroad, it cost me the equivalent of about £3.00 which was a real bargain! You can find it here.

It lasts all day without leaving black smudges under my eye.
It gives quite a natural look on your lashes.
It has a rubber/plastic wand which I prefer on my lashes.
It contains argan oil which is great for helping your lashes grow and keeping them soft and in good condition.
I like the packaging

When applying the mascara, I often get black smudges on my eye lid just above the lash line which then means I have to top up my eye shadow to cover it, which I don't usually have to do with other mascaras that I've used in the past.
I don't think it's the best mascara for 'full' lashes as the name would suggest, it gives more of a subtle, natural look

I'd rate this 7.5/10

L'Oreal Paris False Lash Superstar

I bought this for the starter price of £7.99 although it's now gone up to £10.99. You can find it here.

It's great for lengthening and volumising your lashes.
It gives your lashes a very full look, which helps make your eyes look more open/bigger.
It helps make my lashes look as nice as fake lashes without making them look fake, if that makes sense, although it also doesn't make my lashes look natural.
It lasts all day.
The curved wand makes application easier.
It looks funny having white lashes before you apply the second step. :)

It can sometimes leave black smudges under my bottom lashes so I'm considering using this mascara just on my top lashes and a different one on the bottom ones.
It's more difficult to get off but that's also kind of a positive as it means it lasts ages.

I'd rate this 9/10

Overall, I'd recommend the Rimmel Wonder'full mascara if you want a natural, more subtle look for your lashes, but if you're looking for a mascara to make your eyes stand out and your lashes look fuller, then I'd suggest you try the L'Oreal False Lash Superstar mascara, which gives incredible results.

George's Fish and Chip Kitchen Review

Hello everyone, as you may have guessed from the title, I have a review for you today, but it's probably not your typical review in that it's a review of a restaurant rather than a book or beauty product review.

If you ever find yourself in Nottingham City Centre, I 100% recommend going to George's Fish and Chip Kitchen (unless you don't eat fish as your choice would be quite limited). This restaurant opened very recently and I'd not heard much about it and didn't know where it was but today, I was passing the street it was on whilst we were deciding where to have dinner and it looked really nice so we headed on in. I have never been so amazed and happy with a restaurant; everything about it was perfect. If you've ever had George's fish and chips you'll know how amazing they are and this restaurant was even better.

The design was excellent, and it had a sea theme running all through out which made it look both welcoming and elegant. The whole of the restaurant fit in with the theme, from the menus (the actual menu not the food), the food, the seating, the walls and even the toilets, which may sound strange to comment on but the toilets were so nice and I hate it when restaurants have rubbishy toilets.

We also had the loveliest waitress who was really friendly and helpful. She also seemed like she enjoyed being there and wanted us to have a good time which definitely helped make the experience a good one. The service was also very quick even though the restaurant was fairly busy.

I went for the traditional cod in batter with chips and mushy peas, and my mum had the same but had a chip medley of sweet potato, parsnip and beetroot instead of regular potato chips, which I tasted and they were delicious! The fish was skinless and boneless, just how I like it, and the mushy peas came in a cute little jar, while the chips came on a spade-like utensil. It all tasted incredible!

After deciding not to have a dessert, I soon changed my mind when I saw the menu which had some amazing things including 'hot nutella and banana sandwich', yep that's a thing! But I decided to go for the 'rhubarb whip' served with 100s and 1000s, a flake and candyfloss and it looks almost as it good as it tasted. (see below), it had rhubarb in the bottom, then a layer of custard (which I don't normally like cold but in this I loved it), topped with a foamy rhubarb cream and 100s and 1000s. Oh- and the candyfloss was great too.

Unfortunately this was the only picture I took as I was too busy enjoying and getting excited by the meal and I didn't think to do a blog post on it until the dessert, when I knew I needed to share my experience.

I never thought I would write a blog post fangirling about a restaurant but here we are! I hope you enjoyed reading it and if you have any restaurants you recommend, let me know in the comments.

Day in the Life: The Vamps Concert

Hiya, sorry I didn't upload a post at the weekend, my exam period has now started which means most of my time is spent revising and therefore, I don't have much time to write, edit and upload blog posts. However, I will do my best to upload as regularly as I can for the next month or so until they're out the way, but if my posts go MIA, you'll know why.

Anyway, today I thought I'd do a 'Day in the Life' style blog post and basically just ramble and fangirl about my evening at The Vamps concert last night, which if you follow me on twitter, you will probably have seen me tweet about it (many times!)

As you probably know from past blog posts, my favourite band are Union J, but I'm not sure if I've mentioned before (probably have) that The Vamps are a very close second along with a couple of others including 5SOS (information that may seem more relevant later on). When I heard Union J were going on tour with The Vamps, well... it was an offer I wasn't going to refuse, so I booked to go with my friend Jess, who is an even bigger fan of The Vamps than me, and our mums. We were excited for the evening for months before hand and it frequently popped up in conversation.

I started the evening meeting my mum after college and work and going to TGIFridays (one of my favourite restaurants) for a meal before the show. We then met our friends outside the arena and headed on in. As always, it was manic getting from the doors to your seat due to the mass number of people moving in all directions, but when we reached our seat, we were very happy with where we were sat, as we had a good view of the whole stage and were quite close.

First of all Luke Friend performed 'Hole in my Heart' with a slight mash up of 'Fix You' by Coldplay, which I really enjoyed as I thought his voice sounded great and had a sort of husky tone to it which I like, although, I was a little disappointed that he didn't sing any more songs but looking back I'm glad as it meant there was more time for the other support acts *cough* Union J *cough*.

The Tide came on next and while I liked their music and performance, it was probably my least favourite of the night but considering that night consisted of Union J and The Vamps, it's hardly surprising! But, they did do a very good performance, and I'm looking forward to hearing more from them.

Then it was time for my favourites and the act I was most excited for (sorry The Vamps, I do love you a lot too but just not quite as much). I love all of their songs but I was so happy that they did my absolute favourites off of their new album which were Central Park, I Can't Make You Love Me, All About A Girl and You Got It All (They also performed Carry You acoustic, Tonight We Live Forever and an acapella version of Amnesia by 5SOS, (told you that random information would come in handy later) which sounded amazing. I had so much fun the whole time they performed and was so emotional and excited that I was convinced my legs were going to collapse under me as they were shaking so much, but luckily they didn't and I made it through the set. I won't ramble on too much more about how incredibly perfect they were, other than to say that they sounded insane, particularly Jaymi when he killed the high notes... he has one hell of a voice!

Last but not least, The Vamps! Oh My Gosh, they smashed it and had me singing and dancing along from the word go. They started and ended with a bang and continued that success and excitement throughout the whole performance. There was so much energy on stage which was also echoed throughout the crowd, and I along with Jess, had so much fun singing along to all of their songs, waving our phone torches, clapping and whatever else we did (it's kind of a bit of a blur after all the excitement and emotion). It blows me away how talented they are, not just as singers but also as musicians, particularly Brad who played the guitar, drums and piano through out the show, all of which sounded spectacular. I also loved seeing how happy it made Jess to see her favourite band perform live, and have so much fun doing so.

It was a wonderful evening and one I will remember for a long time. Thanks for coming with me Jess :)

Thank you for reading this post, let me know what you think of this 'Day in the Life' style post in the comments. I'd also love to read some of your concert or music experiences/loves. Good luck to anyone with exams coming up! I hope you have a lovely week.

Thanks for reading.

Love, Steph x
