Prom Lookbook 2016

We are well into the exam season now and I don't know about you but I can't wait for it to end for so many different reasons; the obvious being no more exams! For many of us, at the end of this stressful period is prom, whether that's your end of school prom or a Sixth Form ball. I love events like these are they're a nice way to dress up and spend time with the people you've been with for years and may not see again (you can decide whether you're glad or sad about that one). As the prom season is almost upon us, I thought I'd show you a few dress ideas for the occasion in case you haven't got yours yet and want some inspiration or, like me, you just like looking at other dresses. I don't have shoes in any of the photos as I don't have suitable shoes yet and as it's the dress I'm showing you, I didn't think it would affect the post too much.
This is the dress I wore to my Year 11/end of school prom and I love it. I reckon it's one of the most expensive things I own, definitely the most expensive item in my wardrobe, but when prom shopping this was the dress both my mum and I loved straight away (so of course it would be the most expensive in the shop)! We bought it in America from one of the Cache stores and as I've just attempted to find the dress or a similar one, I've seen that Cache stores have all closed. I then had a browse to see if I could find a similar dress elsewhere but had no luck- sorry!
The next few dresses are a lot more affordable than the first one. This one being a floor length dress (I've had it for two and a half years so it's no longer floor length on me) with a white top and black, flowing skirt to it. It also has silver gems along the belt and on the shoulders. As I mentioned I have had this for a while so it may be difficult to get hold of now but it was from Quiz who have plenty of similar dresses on the site if you wanted to have a browse.

I was a bit reluctant to show you this one as there is a high chance I will be wearing this to my prom this year. I like that it's quite simple but elegant with the silver detailing on the belt. The style is also suitable for going out after prom if I decide to do that (which there is a high chance I won't but even so). I bought this in the Christmas sales so it didn't cost too much and was from New Look. New Look often have beautiful LBDs in stock so even if this one isn't available anymore, plenty of others will be.

This is the other dress I am considering wearing this year. At the moment, I'm leaning more towards the black but I'm still undecided. Which one do you think I should wear? As you can see, it's a floral print, short dress with a pleated skirt and netting underneath to poof it out a bit more. It's quite a simple back with a little triangle cut in it and it's definitely a Summery dress.
Last but not least is this gorgeous multi-coloured dress of a similar style to the last. It again has layers underneath the skirt to add a bit of volume to it (is that a thing?) and has a nice pink and gold belt across the middle which adds a little something to it. I wore this dress to my 18th/50th party which I did a post on here, so if you read that, you may recognise it. I am desperate to wear this dress again as I thought it looked really lovely and went nicely with my heeled ankle boots for a slightly less formal, edgier look. Again, this dress was from Quiz- I think 80% of my dresses are from Quiz as it's one of my favourite stores and definitely my go to for a dress for any occasion- I cannot recommend the store enough.

I hope you enjoyed reading this post and having a look at some of my Prom dress ideas. Let me know what you thought in the comments, particularly if you have a prom this year. Sorry I couldn't find exact matches for you, it's because I've had them all for quite a long time and so they're no longer in stock however, I've done my best to find similar pieces. If you liked what you read, you can follow my social media links in the sidebar to the right of this post or in the top, right-hand corner of my blog, to be notified when I upload a new post. Thank you for reading.

Love, Steph x

  1. Talk about a great selection of dresses! If only I had more reasons to wear dresses like this. I love the backs on the two dresses that you're deciding between for prom they are absolutely beautiful! What ever you pick, you'll look perfect. I genuinely think I love all these dresses especially the detailing on the first.
